At the Hawaii Salsa & Bachata Congress, we are committed to creating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all dancers, artists, staff, volunteers, and attendees. To uphold the spirit of aloha and ensure a respectful and enjoyable experience for everyone, all participants are expected to follow the guidelines below.
- Scope & Applicability
This Code of Conduct applies to all attendees, performers, instructors, staff, volunteers, vendors, and guests, and covers behavior before, during, and in connection with the Hawaii Salsa & Bachata Congress, including workshops, performances, social dancing, and related events. This includes online or offsite conduct reasonably connected to the event or its community. Participation in the event is a revocable privilege, not a right.
- Respect & Safety First
Harassment of any kind will not be tolerated. This includes offensive comments or behavior based on gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion, nationality, or any other protected characteristic.
- Harassment, Intimidation, and Stalking
Deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, coercion, or any form of unwanted attention, including but not limited to harassing photography, video, or online behavior, is strictly prohibited.
- Physical Contact & Consent
All social dancing requires clear, mutual consent. Unwelcome or inappropriate physical contact is not allowed. Participants are expected to check in with their dance partners and immediately respect boundaries at all times.
- No Tricks or Risky Movements on the Social Dance Floor
For everyone’s safety, lifts, dips, aerials, or other risky movements are not permitted during social dancing unless clearly communicated, mutually agreed upon, and executed with appropriate space and skill. Movements that pose a risk to the dancer, their partner, or surrounding attendees are prohibited. The safety of all dancers is our priority.
- No Disruptive Behavior
Disruptions to workshops, performances, social dancing, or event operations (whether verbal, physical, or otherwise) will not be tolerated.
- Reporting Concerns
If you witness or experience behavior that feels unsafe, inappropriate, or in violation of this Code of Conduct, please speak with an organizer (Stefan or Andrea), or contact us confidentially at:
[email protected]
Reports can be made at any time and do not require a police report. Submitting a report does not guarantee a specific outcome and does not create a contractual or legal right to any particular action.
- Response & Organizer Discretion
The Hawaii Salsa & Bachata Congress organizers are not investigators, but we take all safety concerns seriously. Reports will be reviewed with care, discretion, and respect for privacy. The organizers reserve the right, at their sole discretion, to deny or revoke event access or participation at any time, remove individuals from the event, or take other appropriate action to maintain a safe environment. The organizers are not obligated to conduct an investigation, gather evidence, or make determinations of fault. Actions may be taken with or without prior warning and without refund, except where required by law. Organizers are not required to disclose details of internal decisions.
- Our Commitment
We are dedicated to fostering a dance community where everyone feels safe, supported, and respected. By coming together with care and intention, we can ensure our event reflects the warmth, inclusivity, and aloha spirit that defines Hawaii and the Latin dance community.
